Teething can be hard on your baby. While some babies seem to go through it with limited difficulty, there are many others who have a very difficult time getting through the teething process. As a parent, you want to do your best to make the process as easy and pain free as possible.

There are a lot of methods parents pass around with regards to how to help a baby best when they are teething. However, not all of these methods are proven to work and some of them aren't good for the baby. This article will provide you with information on the best ways to sooth your baby and which methods you should stay away from.

Teething methods you want to stay away from

Some people suggest beaded teething necklaces made of small beads. The baby can chew on the beads to bring them relief when they are teething. However, the string may break and the baby can end up swallowing one of the beads. This poses a serious choking hazard.

For many generations it has been popular to put alcohol on a baby's gums to help numb them when the baby is teething. You should never give an infant alcohol in any amount.

It may seem like a good idea to put something frozen on your baby's gums to help ease the pain. However, this is actually a bad idea. Putting a frozen object directly on their sensitive gums can hurt them.

Teething methods you should try

One of the best ways you can help your baby feel better when they are teething is to massage their gums. You can use a clean finger and let them chew on it. You can also wrap your finger in a small washcloth and use it to massage their gums. This will give them the benefits of a massage and something to chew on while soaking up some of the excess drool teething babies have.

You can put their pacifier in the refrigerator to cool it off and give it to your baby. This will provide them with some relief and help calm them down.

You can also purchase teething rings that you put in the refrigerator. When cooled, these rings provide your baby with a toy and a way to get relief from the pain associated with teething.

If you can't seem to soothe your baby when they are teething, a dentist at your family dental clinic may be able to offer you more suggestions.
