A change in your hormone levels during menopause can cause your body to react in a number of  ways. Some of these changes are more subtle and difficult to spot; however, there are more obvious changes like dry gums. Dry gums can often lead to bacteria and plaque buildup inside your mouth. Bacteria that is left untreated may eventually develop into gum disease and cause a dental infection around your gum line. While dry gums may only be temporary, it can cause issues with eating and speaking. Luckily, there are a few homemade juices that you can create to help treat your dry gums during menopause.

Aloe Vera Juice

The aloe vera plant contains a gel that is frequently used as a topical treatment to soothe burns and provide moisture to areas that have been depleted of moisture. A large portion of the gel's composition comes from water. When consumed as a juice, aloe vera gel can help to restore moisture to your gums and mouth. Start by peeling away the skin of the aloe vera plant and removing the gel. Cut the gel up into small pieces and place the pieces into a blender. Add a few spoonfuls of water and blend the mixture until it is completely smooth. Add a few drops of maple syrup and blend again. Pour the mixture into a cup and drink the mixture. Drink the aloe vera juice before and after your meals to ensure that your gums remain moist.

Cucumber Juice

Cucumber is used internally and externally to restore moisture to dry areas throughout the body. Cut a whole piece of fresh cucumber into small slices and place the cucumber in a blender. Add a cup of cool water to the blender and blend the mixture until it is completely smooth. Add more water if you would like to make the consistency of the juice thinner. You can add sugar and lemon to the mixture for taste. Pour the mixture from the blender into a cup and drink it. Consume the cucumber juice before bed and early in the morning. Drink the juice daily in order to ensure that your gums are no longer dry.

Dry gums can lead to sore and bleeding gums if they are not treated early on. Therefore, use these homemade juice remedies to help prevent your gums from drying out during menopause. For more information, contact Charlottesville Dental Medicine at Forest Lakes or a similar organization.
