Hi! My name is Addy Reed. I’m 57 years old and have been neglectful about going to the dentist. Last month was my first dentist visit in six years. I had always been diligent about twice a year cleanings and checkups, but time got away from me until one of my crowns came out. As we age, the dental work from years past tends to do that. When you neglect to visit the dentist on a regular basis, the list of things that need to be done may grow; at least this was my experience. I left the dentist office with an extensive list of things I needed to have done. The office staff was very kind. They are working with me to set up a plan. How To Get A Better Smile With Veneers And Crowns

If you want to improve your smile, then there are a number of different options out there. Some are more effective than others in general, while some are much more effective in certain situations. To help you figure out the best course of action for you, here is a comparison of two popular methods of correcting smiles: veneers and crowns.

Dental Veneers

The basic premise of veneers is that they are a thing layer of porcelain or ceramic that is attached to the front of your teeth. Each tooth is given an individual layer, which means that you will need to get veneers installed by the tooth. These layers are the same color as your natural teeth, so they can be used to restore your smile to its natural bright color. They also provide limited protection, which can be extremely useful if your enamel is starting to wear down.

Veneers are a good choice when you really want to adjust the color of your teeth overall. By getting veneers on several of your most prominent teeth, you can dramatically improve the color of your smile while also getting yourself a bit of protection.

However, veneers aren't that great if you really need to restore significant portions of your teeth. If you are missing a lot of pulp, then other options might be much more effective.

Dental Crowns

On the other hand, crowns are attached to teeth that are damaged. This damaged material can be excavated and replaced with a crown, which will fully restore your tooth to its original shape. Since crowns are made custom for every individual case, you can get crowns that will perfectly suit your dental situation. While you can get metal crowns that stand out, you can also get ceramic or porcelain, which will blend in quite nicely.

Crowns are best in situations where you need to restore the structural integrity of your teeth. They can simultaneously provide you with a great deal of functionality and a more natural appearance for the tops of the teeth in question. If you need to get a root canal and are worried about the appearance of your teeth, then you will probably end up getting a crown that makes your tooth look as good as new.

However, they aren't particularly useful if your teeth have almost all of their original material still. They also aren't the best option if you want to adjust the appearance of an entire tooth, since they will only really cap the top of the tooth in question.
