When your teen gets their single implant installed, they will encounter a variety of pain. One of the most common feelings that follow a single implant procedure is gum soreness. While this may not hurt as much as the surgical site, it can make it uncomfortable for your teen to participate in physical activities, eat their favorite foods, and speak. If this is their first single implant, then it may be difficult to deal with this pain. Fortunately, there are a few tips that you can use to help your teen get over their gum soreness following their single implant.

Avoid Serving Your Teen Tough Foods

One of the easiest ways to overcome gum soreness after a single implant placement is to leave the area alone. This can be difficult to do if your teen wants to eat some of their favorite meals immediately after the procedure. However, if your teen's favorite meals contain foods that are tough or difficult to eat, then this will end up doing more harm to the gum tissue. After a single implant placement, it is recommended to switch to a liquid diet. An all liquid diet gives the gum tissue a chance to heal and avoids aggravating the dental implant. You can accomplish this by making nutritious smoothies for your teen to consume after the procedure. In order for the smoothie to be a meal replacement, you need to consider adding things like fruits, vegetables, yogurt, and nut butters.

Bathe the Site in an Analgesic Rinse

If you have ever used an analgesic rinse after a dental procedure, then you know how effective it is to ease any type of pain. A homemade analgesic rinse will work perfectly to cure your teen's gum soreness. If you want to pick up an herbal rinse from the store, then look for oral rinses that contain herbs like chamomile and thyme. These herbs contain analgesic properties. If you want to create your own from home, then take a spoonful of the dried version of these herbs and add it to hot water. Allow the herbs to soak for hours until the water is no longer clear. Strain the herbs and instruct your teen to soak their gums in the rinse. Give the rinse to your teen after every meal.

Gum soreness can be difficult for any teen to deal with after getting dental implants. Therefore, use these tips to help them get their pain under control.
