Hi! My name is Addy Reed. I’m 57 years old and have been neglectful about going to the dentist. Last month was my first dentist visit in six years. I had always been diligent about twice a year cleanings and checkups, but time got away from me until one of my crowns came out. As we age, the dental work from years past tends to do that. When you neglect to visit the dentist on a regular basis, the list of things that need to be done may grow; at least this was my experience. I left the dentist office with an extensive list of things I needed to have done. The office staff was very kind. They are working with me to set up a plan. When you go to the dentist, he or she will take a mold of your child's mouth and then send the mold off to have the flipper created. Resin teeth will be added to an acrylic mold in the exact places where your daughter is missing teeth. When the flipper arrives, it is held in place by natural suction.

Flippers Are Not Permanent

Flippers can be taken in and out of your child's mouth whenever she chooses. The flipper should be carried in a protective case when it is not being worn to ensure that it is not damaged. There are hard plastic cases that are designed to keep retainers secure that are often great for use for flippers, as well.

Flippers Create a Natural Look

When your child is wearing a flipper, it will not be obvious. When the doctor creates the mold of your child's teeth, he or she will hold a color chart next to the teeth that she still has to find out what shade they are. He or she will then let the dental technicians know what shade your child's teeth are so that the resin teeth that are created will be the exact same shade as her natural teeth.

After the flipper is created, the dentist will have your child come in for a fitting. Make sure that it feels comfortable, and realize that it will take some getting used to before she will be able to talk without having any sort of lisp. The flipper will be on the roof of her mouth, which can create a slight lisp in the beginning. Be sure to have her take out the flipper before eating to ensure that she does not break the teeth on it when she bites into her food.
